Nebraska Auto Insurance -- What To Do When You Need It Just Because It's Mandatory

It does make sense to get the most extensive Nebraska auto insurance coverage in most cases. However, in some situations, it's sheer waste of money...

What is the 5-digit ZIP code for the location where the vehicle(s) is/are located.
Are you currently insured or have been insured during the past 30 days (on any policy, for any vehicle) ?
Yes No

Because the law so demands, you must have this policy if you want to drive. But what if you know that you really won't gain from this policy? In such a case I'll advise that you buy the minimum demanded by law.

We'll look at one such situation where this applies and how to go about it for the best results...

Comprehensive and collision coverage are great for an auto insurance policy. However, for an old car that's NOT a classic, they are NOT advisable.

To determine what you get as reimbursement when you file a claim, there's a convention that is used to determine your vehicle's value at the time (Kelley's Blue Book Value). Experience has shown that once your car is old, it doesn't have much value. This means very little or NO reimbursement irrespective of how much your Nebraska auto insurance coverage is.

If you want to take the most financially sound decision, then you'll do well to drop collision and comprehensive coverage once your car becomes old -- Then it doesn't do you any good.

Yes, I know we've NOT talked about the liability part of your Nebraska auto policy. I've got it covered. You can get a lot more for less this way...

An umbrella policy is the perfect product for you. It's a lot cheaper but gives far superior coverage. With your auto liability coverage you'll still be very vulnerable to crazy liability claims. And you know, these attorneys can actually go after your assets if your insurance coverage can't pay up.

With about $300 extra, you can only raise your liability coverage to $100,000/$300,000 (from $25,000/$50,000) if you are a 35-year. However, that same amount will get you up to $1 million worth of coverage with an umbrella policy.

To sweeten it all, an umbrella policy will take care of any other liability claims arising from, say, your home (You'll do well to get details from your agent).

While I'll encourage you to go for the minimum as you apply my tip to get the most of it, remember what insurance is about in the first place: Paying a little to protect things you value most. If you miss this, then you've lost the purpose for this in the first place.

If you want to save even more without putting yourself at risk, take some time out to do extensive comparison shopping. Get and compare Nebraska auto insurance quotes from a wide range of reputable auto insurance quotes sites.
